I started my first blog, The New Indian Bride (or TNIB for short) to capture the days and weeks leading up to and following my June 2010 wedding. I wrote all about finding a wedding lengha, what I was feeling the day of the wedding and who can forget the entry about my shoes! It didn’t take long before the guests returned home, the ladoos were all gone, the mehndi faded and the lengha was packed away. That’s when this New Indian Bride became The New Indian Wife. In what felt like a sudden and abrupt thud I woke up to find that I was no longer the soon to be adorned bride planning her outdoor garden dream wedding. Instead I was a regular woman figuring out what it meant to be a Wife, Homemaker, Partner, Lover, Daughter in Law, Sister in Law and all the other titles I assumed the minute the sindoor touched my forehead.
Everyone says the first year of marriage is the toughest and my first 365 days as a Mrs were no exception. Real life is no picnic. It is not for the faint at heart. Add some good Indian masala into the mix and it can be a down right dhamaka. But fear not this Bride survived the transition to Wife and is ready to share what she learned. So get your garam chai da cup, sit back and get ready for the 100 lessons I learned during my first year of marriage. Trust me, there isn’t a Bollywood movie that’s got what I got so let’s get going!
